Marine Electronics Battery Selection - Amp Hours
When it comes to running marine electronics, one of the most important considerations is the amount of power you'll need for an extended period of time. In particular, you'll need to know how many amp hours (Ah) you'll need to run your electronics using a lithium battery.
To determine the number of amp hours you'll need, you'll first need to know the power consumption of your electronics. This information can typically be found in the specifications or on the manufacturer's website. Included in the graph below, taken from Powerhouse Lithium's website are amp draws for most fish finders in 12V or 16V systems:
Add up the total number of amps from electronics you have using the 12V or 16V column, depending on which battery system you intend to run. Multiply this number by the number of hours you will spend running this battery before recharging. The resulting number will be the minimum amp-hours required for your marine electronics. At Lithium Battery Source, we recommend going above and beyond the minimum required amp-hours.
Using the amp-hours filters on our 12V and 16V batteries pages linked below, you can select the right battery for your needs.
